This artwork, entitled, "Amazing Grace," combines the high definition resolution photography of Phil Koch with an excerpt of one of the most often recognized hymns ever written -- it is performed an estimated 10 million times per year. Koch took the photo, "Once Upon a Time," as part of his 2010 series, "Horizons." In a review of Koch's work, Smithsonian and National Geographic photographer Royce Bair noted Koch's breaking of one rule of composition as he often centered the horizon line in the photograph, with stunning results. In shooting "Horizons," Koch waited in the often-overlooked fields of Wisconsin until the sunrise illuminated the space in a striking manner. "Once Upon a Time" features the sun rising over fields of colorful tulips. Koch's work is complemented by the words of English clergyman John Newton, who published the song, "Amazing Grace," in 1779. The song reminds viewers of the artwork that God's grace shines on us just as the morning sun brightens the tulip-filled meadow. The piece is framed by molded plaster with a wood appearance, highlighted by embossed molding with burnished highlights. Hang this artwork as a beacon to remind yourself and others to praise the Lord just as fervently today as you did when your faith began.
