There are times of trial and tribulation that affect us all as we walk through this journey called “life”. I refer to these as times of “ashes”. It is only by walking through these difficult moments that God is able to fully show His true mercy and love for us. For as we go through these times of “ashes”, He shows His face to His suffering children as well as to those that are watching on the periphery, looking for guidance as to how one reacts to the “ash” moments of life. It is only then God changes beauty for ashes, and the full measure of His majesty, love, and grace is revealed to us all.
This book takes you on a journey through the many times that God took the ash experiences of over four decades as a foreign missionary and turned them in to a thing of true beauty. It is my hope that as you read this book it will move and inspire you to serve wherever God plants you, and that you will do so even in the midst of what appears to be impossible obstacles. After all, we serve a mighty God to whom nothing is impossible.
As proof of what God can do through anyone, regardless of their circumstances, this book contains the history of Baptist Medical and Dental Mission International, (BMDMI), an organization founded by faith and by God’s grace and strength alone.
For those of you reading this book because you are contemplating serving as a missionary, you will find extensive stories that will hopefully inspire you to seriously consider if God is calling you to serve either domestically or internationally on the mission field. The need for missionaries is direr than ever as the Lord’s return draws closer each day.
If you are reading this book because you have a chronic illness that you battle each day and times of “ashes” never seem to end, it is my hope that my life experiences will give you the courage and strength to continue your physical battles, never wavering from your path as you rest in God’s promise that “Weeping may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Beauty will rise up from the ash moments in your life.
May God bless you in your journey through life, and may you always be willing to humbly and sincerely say, “Here I am, Lord. Use me in whatever manner I can serve You as I will praise you in both times of ashes, as well as beauty”.
