Product Overview

In this literature-based survey of this period, students will read such classics as Uncle Tom's Cabin, The Red Badge of Courage, Around the World in 80 Days, The Hiding Place, House of Sixty Fathers, The Endless Steppe, The Jungle and many more. The period of history covered in this tuly was one of the most tumultuous in the history of mankind. From America's personal drama in the Civil War, to world war on a scale hitherto unknown to mankind, these were the times that tried men's soul. Out of these dramas of horrific injustice and suffering, men and women responded with uncommon courage and valor. In each of the above works, the literature was intrinsically linked with historical events both as a response to social and political issues - but also further influencing and impacting the outcome of history itself. This study also includes complete biographies of Hitler, Stalin, Teddy Roosevelt and other key figures of this period. This one to two-year course is designed for Senior High students, with teacher notes included. The Study Guide is divided into four sections and it is suggested that roughly one section per semester be completed.
