I think Easy Grammar is one of the best books available for training our children to use proper grammar in both writing and speaking.

Easy Grammar is not a good name for this curriculum. It is easy for the child to learn on his/her own for most of it as there are simple, concise instruction pages before each new section. Some things need brief explanation. This curriculum teaches what prepositions are, teaches them to cross out prep. phrases, thereby allowing them to find the subjective and verb easily. It also moves the student into all the parts of speech, proper usage, frequently confused words, sentence combining, and many other topics. An elementary schoolteacher friend of mine, who also homeschools was having difficulty teaching her son grammar wen he was in 5th grade. I told her about Easy Grammar. She tried it with him and couldn't believe how easy it made it for him to grasp the material. Within one year, he was up to grade level or higher with his grammatical skills. She thought all schools should be using this curriculum because it is so well-done and easy to teach and learn from. My kids always test at a high school level on standardized tests in grammar and usage sections, thanks to Easy Grammar. It should be named 'Awesome Grammar!'

The author states that all of the information should be taught as if in a class and we did do more discussion of the topics our first year through the course. However, during this, our second year using this curriculum, I have found that my children can complete the work pretty much independently.
