There are a lot of questions for each lesson, thus making homework long. Student can focus on those review questions where more work is needed, or do odd/ even ones.

Saxon math is very thorough in teaching and reviewing concepts. While the lessons are lenghty, they can easily be divided over two days if this is necessary for retention. The text is quite dry and the lesson format never varies. This, along with the black and white pages covered in small print, can make for a long and boring year for those students who are already 'anti-math'. For all of those negatives, I still found it to be the best thing I could have used for my 'anti-math' daughter for pre-algebra. She was given a solid foundation in math and algebraic concepts. Sticking with this was a struggle, but well worth it. She is now doing very well in algrebra (with a different curriculum) and has a confidence we owe to Saxon 8/7.

When teaching math, find a curriculum you and your student like and stick with it through out his homeschooling. That way there are no holes to fill, if you jump from different curriculum.
