I really like the manipulatives available with other math curricula since I am very visual and it was easier to explain the concepts.

I used to use Saxon years ago and for some reason we chose to venture out and try other options such as math u see, switched on school house, video text, singapore math (I can't remember if we tried others). After 13 years of homeschooling I have to say there is no other foundational math I would ever consider using in the k-6 range other than saxon. Some say it is repetitive........but I find the children need reinforcement. If there is anything that the child does not learn in saxon it is not due to the curriculum. I wanted to mention we always had high test scores when using saxon as well. We usually used the level higher than where the child should be (for instance....my child is in 5th grade we would start with the 6th grade equivalent.

People may complain about the repetition, but you are not required to do every question. We often do only the odd-numbered problems. Buy from Rainbow Resources for a better price.

Saxon math is easy to use. I find the constant reinforcement of concepts and gradually introdection of new concepts to work well with my son.

In the Saxon Math my favorite thing with how it was set up was with each problem there was a page number in () that would direct you/or the student to the place in the text where the concept was taught. That alone made this curriculum easy for my children to 'teach' themselves and for me to reference if need be when extra help was needed. Also didn't feel like they went over board with the 'amount' of problems they gave to teach a concept.
