The PHONICS Road to Spelling and Reading
Level Two
By Barbara Beers
Designed to follow Level One
This year there are 3 sections of study each taking about 20-30 minutes each day.
1). Blueprints/Building Codes - A continuation of our spelling list along with Building Codes needed to illustrate various spelling rules; 500+ new words plus lots of Rule Tune practice and new Rule Tunes.
2). Framing/Framing Codes - Using the foundation of spelling words we have learned, this is an introduction to various parts of speech and simple parts of a sentence through dictation, with new Grammar Tunes.
3). Reading/Composition - With the help of the teacher training on DVD, a daily reading schedule, and a prepared notebook, you can guide your student through his first literature study by letting him read aloud to you each day, discussing new words as you encounter them in context. Then at the end of each week you read aloud to the student and teach various literary elements through dictation. At the end of the year, your student will be able to identify character, plot, setting, similes, and metaphors, as well as learn and practice alphabetizing, listing with commas and semi-colons, outlining, essay-writing from an outline, paraphrasing, summarizing, and making character comparisons, all wrapped up in a literature notebook of your student's own writing and illustrations.
