Description of Awakening: A New Approach to Faith, Fasting, and Spiritual Freedom by Stovall Weems
It’s time to stop hitting the spiritual snooze button.
If you would have trouble describing your walk with God as fresh and exciting, your spiritual life as vibrant and passionate, then you are missing out on the attributes that can be the everyday norm in your faith. Awakening will rouse your slumbering soul. You’ll discover how to break out of your season of drought or get off to a successful start either in the New Year or in the upcoming season of life. Instead of going through the motions, adopt a mindset that urges you to enjoy God’s presence every second of every day!
Weems encourages his readers to fully surrender to the Lord, to discover the right kind of fuel for the spiritual journey, and to learn a new way of prayer and fasting. This is a lifestyle that is not based on rules or religion, but on an intimate, motivating and fulfilling relationship with Christ. Includes a 21-Day Plan that will guide you through the principles necessary to achieve this relationship – even in a world where everything else quickly becomes stale.

 A Great Read
From the very beginning this book grabbed my attention. If you have been a Christian very long you will quickly identify with this book. The author challenges us to awake from the routine, stale walk with Christ to a vibrant relationship.
The book is divided into two parts: Part One shows you how to regain the 'first love' you had when first coming to Christ. I enjoyed his analogy how we can "gunk up" our lives with all our activity, noise, and clutter and need to push the spiritual 'reset' button.
Part Two gives you The 21-Day Plan. This section gives you the different types of fasts, how to get started, and many other additional helps. I think this 3 week plan will be helpful to all Christians.
I highly recommend this book. It is easy to read and understand. It will take you to a rewarding relationship with God.
This was given to me free for the purpose of this review by Waterbrook/Multnomah Press through their blogging for books program.

 Awakening
Having heard the author speak, I thought his book would be wonderful. However, I was somewhat disappointed. I do think that there are some good points, but I was somewhat surprised at the implications of endorsing what I call Christian universalism...the ultra-grace message. There is nothing that ever comes out and makes the statement, but it is implied that no matter what we do or how we live, we're covered by grace, which is all that matters in the end. So from my position, I would not be interested in reading more books from this author.
