A Voice for the Oppressed and Marginalized
Bringing to light the truth of the whole Gospel, Rich Stearns, displays the realities of the needs of others who are not in our direct sight. If you are like me, there have been times when I would take a look at the needs of the world and one of two things happens:
1. I am overwhelmed and feel that I am not able to make that much a difference.
-or-
2. I do not personalize it and place the need in the peripheral, getting passed on as a transaction that monthly comes to mind.
In "The Hole in our Gospel," Rich Stearns, brings the need to true face. It is real. It is evident and it should be something that we, as followers of Christ, should reflect and be moved by these needs. Rich Stearns, displays this picture not in a overwhelming or guilt-played way to make you feel like a horrible human being but, makes aware the reality and opportunity and vision that we are able to make a difference with the "loaves and fish" that we are able to offer.
This book is life-changing. Upon reading it, it places you in a position where you are up front and honest to the questions, "what am I going to do? what can I offer?" You cannot read this book and not be moved and challenged in one way or another. With the realization of the truth in what the effects of such a thing as clean water, places you in realization of the blessings that we have and more times than not, take advantage of them.
This book drives you to jump out of your seat and get moving.
Rich Stearns in "The Hole in our Gospel" is a voice for the oppressed and the marginalized. This book will, in my prayers, revolutionize the perspective of modern-day Westernized Christianity. May we not turn a deaf ear to this voice of the cries of those who truly cry out to God for aid and help.
"If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered."
-Proverbs 21:13
