No, I wouldn't say pre-requisite, but in conjunction with. I used Jim Weiss' CDs that was him reading the Story of the World. So my kids would listen & learn for hours on their own. I had the books so if they had a question, I could look up the text rather than trying to back the CD up and me hurry up and get context by just listening. I need hands-on, visual, and learning to get something.
