Allie's Bayou Rescue, Princess in Camo, Book 1, by Missy Robertson, Mia Robertson & Jill Osborne
Life has its challenges for twelve-year-old Allie Carroway. She has to be careful about what she eats and keep her asthma treatment with her at all times, because one more serious asthma attack could send her, along with her family, to Arizona. She loves the Louisiana Bayou and the extended family, with whom she co-stars in the reality TV show, Carried Away with the Carroways.
Uncle Wayne and Aunt Kassie are about to adopt twelve-year-old Hunter, the first boy to join the Carroway family in a long time. Allie, along with her cousins Kendall, Ruby, and Lola, have never let a boy into their tree house called, Diva Duck Blind. If Allie's cousins have it their way, Hunter won't be allowed in either. Allie can't ignore that still small inside, telling her things must change as Hunter is honored and accepted into the family.
The cousins come up with a rigorous initiation for Hunter that brings together several traditions of the Louisiana bayou, including frogs, hunting, and a scary shed. A blackout on the bayou on the very night of the initiation raises the stakes when Hunter goes missing. Allie and the girls face grueling obstacles as they try to bring the family back together.
The Princess in Camo series explores the nature of a family packed with social, cultural, and physical diversity. In their world filled with class and camouflage, the cousins are constantly seeking ways to love unconditionally through all the hiccups with the love and faith of family.
