What Was Pompeii by Jim O'Connor, Fred Harper, and John Hinderliter, Paperback
When Mount Vesuvius errupted on August 24, AD 79, no one was prepared. There were no warnings or predictions to prepare the Roman citizens of Pompeii. This once prospering port city was quickly demolished and covered in ash. It wasn't until 1748 that explorers were able to rediscover the intact buildings and beautiful mosaics that we were able to reconstruct this long forgotten history.
