You already believe that Jesus is God, but do you also think of Him as a real person?
For thirty-three years Jesus experienced everything we feel: weakness, weariness, and rejection. His feelings got hurt, his feet got tired, and his head even ached.
It feels irreverent to think of Jesus in such terms. It's easy to keep the humanity out of the incarnation. Clean the manure from around the manger, pretend he never snored or hit his thumb with a hammer. When we keep our concept of Jesus as exclusively divine, we can keep Him distant, packaged, and predictable. It's important to remember, the people who saw Jesus first, saw him as a person.
As Max Lucado shows in this video-based Bible study, because Jesus became human, it is now possible for us to see God and hear His voice. We can find out what matters to God, by looking in the Bible and seeing what matters to Jesus. If we want to know what God is doing in our world, we only need to ponder the words of Jesus. By learning more about the person Jesus was and is, we come to grasp more clearly the people we were created to be.
Jesus inspires us to spend time at the foot of the cross searching the heart of the one who would rather die for us than live without us.
