Description

Artist Susan Lordi hand carves the original of each Willow Tree® sculpture. Using family and friends as models, Susan tries to capture a moment in time or express a feeling. Pieces are cast from her original carvings and then individually painted by hand. Softly washed colors, carved and metal accents, and representative icons of nature mark Susan's work. These art forms beautifully express love, closeness, healing, courage, hope—all the emotions of a life well lived.

Susan says of this figurine, "I love the majestic yet simple form of the tall thin cypress trees abundant throughout the countryside of Europe. The spires seem to knit earth to sky, integrating landscape and atmosphere. I wanted to capture the elegant architecture of these trees and create a visually uplifting form for the Nativity. The surfaces are carved with symbols of nature, representing life and renewal. Pinpoints of gold leaf create light and movement."
