In the wake of the divisive national statement in 2017, social media became a battle ground where mean-spirited comments were flying on both sides. The outbursts led Michael W. Smith to pour his heart into songwriting as a response.
"About half the album was written in response to where we are as a nation," Michael says. "In the age of social media, people have forgotten how to talk with one another, to be civil."
In order to make the most of the project, he got in touch with multi-platinum producer and songwriter Brian Todd (Miley Cyrus and Rascal Flatts) and song-smith Kyle Lee to help him round out the album.
"I called a bunch of people I'd never written with because I wanted to push myself and experiment, " Michael W. Smith said.
