Lynn (Josie Bissett), an abused wife, leaves her alcoholic husband Darryl (Russell Porter), taking her two children, Thomas (Rustin Gresiuk) and Sara (Farryn VanHumbeck), and moves to another town where she works as a waitress to make ends meet. A town where Kevin (Matthew Settle) is on the brink of shutting down his marketing and design company due to the economy, all while his wife Jenny faces a difficult pregnancy with twins.
When Thomas starts attending the new school, he quickly becomes the target of a bully who is threatened by how well he can play basketball. Since joining the high school team isn't an option for him, Thomas goes to the community center where he meets Kevin and the two become unlikely friends through pickup basketball games. What neither realize at the time is how much of an impact they will have on each other's families this Christmas through The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program.
