Christmas for a Dollar is inspired by a true story, and based on the book by Gale Sears and Ben Sowards. This holiday classic is about a family that finds out what truly brings joy and love at Christmas.
In the middle of the Great Depression, the Kamp family is struggling. Ever since the untimely death of Mrs. Kamp, the family hasn't been the same. The older children do their best to look after the family, but the younger children, including Hopalong Cassidy fain Norman and straight-talking little Ruthie, struggle the most with the bleak future ahead. Norman's battle with polio has left the family with major debts. The siblings expect a Christmas without presents this year.
When Father manages to gather together a dollar in coins, everything changes. He tasks the children with coming up with special gifts to give to one another, and soon they find that the spirit of Christmas is priceless.
