This is a wonderful introduction into the history of the world. I am currently using this with my third child and all three kids consider history to be one of their favorite subjects.

It is a great curriculum to reinforce classical history. It may be used as a stand-alone curriculum or we used it in conjuction with our Classical Conversations history.

I like that it provides a comprehensive, chronological study of history which can be used for a variety of ages. There are plenty of suggestions for ways to engage all different kinds of learners in the activity book. And there are very quick, easy projects as well as some which require more time and effort. I love that I seem to be learning so much right along with my children as well.

The curriculum I am aware of was Vol 1-4 text of Story of the World. In addition I purchased the CDs from Jim Weiss with Greathall Publishing. I am not a worksheet type of teacher, this course was self-directed by my children for themselves independently. They have listened to hours and hours of these history text and I have done no prep or written assessment. I use oral assessments with my children and it has always been really apparent they heard and understood what they listened to. They will play with legos, draw, bead, or other quiet activities while listening; they often re-listen and they have never considered this as doing school :-D!

I used Story of the World as an asset to Classical Conversations (CC) and it was an amazing 'meat' to the pegs memorized with CC. As I would read aloud to my daughter she was able to connect the dots in history to the timeline, history and geography she was memorizing. Very well written and engaging for the child.

For very young students (K-3) SOTW is a good stand alone. If possible, try to work it so that you can go through the volumes in the middle school range again, the second time delving into more of the supplemental materials/readings. I *highly* recommend getting a good LARGE map.
