Description
Alexander Hamilton has been many things throughout history, now he is the subject of a successful Broadway musical. Now young readers can get a good overview on who this character really was.

Alexander Hamilton had a rough childhood. Born in the British West Indies, he was orphaned and journeyed on toward the American Colonies where he studied to become a lawyer. During the American Revolution, he joined the militia and rose the rank of Major General, where he was the chief aide to General George Washington. Following the war, he became the first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. Among his list of accomplishments are the founding of the Bank of New York and The New York Post newspaper. He was one of the co-authors of The Federalist Papers, which are still used today for constitutional interpretation, and he served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention.

The end of his life is immortalized in a national scandal when he was shot and killed in a duel with Aaron Burr.
