Double Anointing, by R. T. Kendall
Publisher Charisma House
God can use us as we are, and history will determine our legacy.
This book is made to guide you through the challenges and blessings of receiving God's anointing so you can use greater wisdom and discernment to properly use a double portion of anointing.
Elijah was the greatest prophet of the Old Testament next to Moses. Yet, he was so human that James even said was just like us(James 5:17). He challenged the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel and witnessed fire fall from heaven. The next day he was on the run from Jezebel, scared to death. At the end of his ministry, he Elijah chose Elisha, an unknown person with no obvious qualifications to succeed him.
Elijah was Elisha's mentor, yet they were different. Elijah was colorful, while Elisha was colorless in comparison. God's hand was equally on Elisha and Elijah. Over a short span of time, Elisha put a bold request on Elijah, asking for a double portion of his spirit. How was this manifested? That's just what this book is all about.
The anointing could be manifested in more than one way, yet we must all discover our anointing and live within it (Romans 12:3). Elisha's double anointing was partly in quantity instead of in quality. Elijah performed something like seven miracles, while some of Elisha's miracles overlap with Elijah's. However, the total of Elisha's miracles comes to at least fourteen, including the raising of the dead, as Elijah did.
All that being said, these two men had different personalities. Elijah ended brilliantly. Elisha ended not only as a lackluster successor to Elijah, but in personal disappointment. This is a reminder that not all saintly Christians conclude their pilgrimage with sensational testimonies.
