Christmas is an exciting time with love and tradition for the small town of Trapper Falls, Alaska. Mayor Dan Reed (Ted McGinley) looks forward to seeing his hometown come alive with the Christmas spirit. Together with his brother Greg (Brad Stine), they take time away from their adventure tour company to fill the town with Christmas cheer.

Mitch Bright (Daniel Baldwin), Dan's old high school rival, returns home after 20 years. Dan is instantly suspicious. Mitch is a successful big city lawyer who has never taken pride in Trapper Falls, so why return now?

Rivalry ensues between Mitch and Dan when Mitch takes offense to seeing the town's flagrant violation of the constitution's Establishment clause. Mitch demands the Nativity scene to be removed from the front of City hall, and wants to replace Merry Christmas with Happy Holidays on all signs. Fifty years of the town's tradition are being challenged, not by an outsider, but a former member of the community.

The conflict escalates when Mitch decides to run for mayor to replace Dan. Will the citizens of Trapper Falls be able to share their Christmas spirit with Mitch, before he takes away all the traditions they love about the holiday season?
