Chess is one of the oldest classic board games that involves strategy and skill. Teach your children to play using this Family Classics Chess set. This folding board is designed to look like a classic wooden chess board, and the plastic pieces us the solid Staunton design model.
Set out on a quest to capture your opponent's king. Pawns can move forward one space at a time, or two spaces to start, and capture diagonally. Knights can move in any available L-shape pattern (two spaces out, and one space over), and capture any enemy piece they land on. Bishops move diagonally on the color square they start, and capture the enemy piece they land on. Rooks (or castles) move in a straight line, forward, backward, or to the side, and capture the enemy piece they land on. Queens can move and capture like Rooks and Bishops. Kings can move one space in any direction, and capture an enemy piece they land on.
With the King being the most important piece in the game, you want to make sure you keep it well-protected. If your opponent is one move away from capturing your king, you are in Check. If you have no way out of check, then you are in checkmate. Put your strategy to the test to get your opponent into checkmate each time.
